Urn Selection

If your loved one is cremated in Singapore, the cremated ashes would be contained in a vase called an urn. This would also be the final resting place of your loved one. Urns come in many different shapes sizes, and different materials such as marble, ceramic, crystal, glass and metal. Urns can be placed either in governmental columbaria, private columbaria or at home, dependent on the preferences and wishes of the deceased and their loved ones. 

The three governmental columbaria in Singapore—Mandai Columbarium, Choa Chu Kang Columbarium and Yishun Columbarium—charge S$500 for a niche space in the columbarium which are allocated in sequence. If the family wishes to have a choice in deciding the niche space location, it would cost an additional S$250 on top of the S$500. Meanwhile, a family niche space is priced at S$900 and can fit about 2 to 3 urns depending on the size of each individual urn.

There are also private columbaria in Singapore that offer spaces for the placement of urns but they are usually pricier and come with a limited time lease. Urns can also be placed at home, although this is not usually done in Singapore’s conservative society.

They potentially would harm sea creatures when sea creatures either get stuck in them or consume them. Hence, it is highly encouraged for the biodegradable urns to be used when conducting sea burials.
